About Moving Walls 25

On display at Open Society Foundations–New York from September 2018 to July 2019.

Another Way Home is the 25th iteration of Open Society’s Culture and Art program’s ongoing Moving Walls exhibition series, which also marks the 20th anniversary since its inception in 1998. The exhibition brings together eight projects led by thirteen visionary artists, journalists, and creative technologists dedicated to re-envisioning the topic of migration through documentary practice. These individuals seek to reclaim and redefine narratives of refugee and immigrant experiences by focusing on themes of identity, community, and resilience.

In addition to being selected for the Another Way Home exhibition, they have also been selected to receive a fellowship. This support will allow them to continue existing or new bodies of work on migration that stand at the intersection of arts, media, documentary, and social change.

At a time when depictions of migrants across the globe can often be reduced to stereotypes, we are proud to stand with these creative innovators whose mission is to infuse visual culture and civil society with visceral imaginations that center the lived experiences of migrants, immigrants, and refugees within narratives of self-determination.

Moving Walls is an annual exhibition series that explores a variety of social justice and human rights issues through documentary practice, and is produced by Open Society’s Culture and Art program. Moving Walls is exhibited at our offices in New York, London, and Washington, D.C., and includes five to nine discrete bodies of work.

Since 1998, Moving Walls has featured over 200 photographers and artists whose works address a variety of social justice and human rights issues.
